The Great A-Frame Move, Part 1

Those of you who have been following this blog know that we have been planning to move an a-frame cabin onto our land. The opportunity to obtain this cabin came up last September. After a full year, at last, the cabin is on our land!

So how does a house move work? Hopefully these pictures will give you a pretty clear idea. We hired a house moving company to do the actual move, but Steve dug the trenches under the house.

Steve dug two trenches under the cabin using hand tools! The post and pier foundation that the cabin sat on made this possible.

The house movers then shoved metal beams under the house and jacked the house up bit by bit, adding supports as they went.

Wheels were attached to the metal beams and a semi truck was attached to the whole contraption. The house and truck were stuck in the dust for a few hours before the house movers were able to jack them both up and get them out by pulling with a dump truck.

Then down the road it went!

The cabin is now sitting in front of the foundation, ready for the next step, which will happen tomorrow…
